... that I have officially cut my apron strings... my first out landing, at another airport.

It's just a small accomplishment, and it was no great distance (about 10 miles), however, heading out down wind from the airport in a 1-26, towards the rain, intending to find that airport you have never flown into or even seen from the air, well, it is sort of a hair raiser :D

But, I had a goal set to do it before Aug 12, and Sat was my last chance, and the thermals were good, and I had a trailer in the parking lot ready to roll.

I drove out and had a peek at the airport before flying to have a look around, planned the flight and flew the plan. The hardest part was convincing myself to turn down wind and go..

Ahh! The ol' 1-26 downwind dash. That's what they call a " gateway drug".

Congrats! Now that you know it isn't so scary, you need to find yourself a
nice field to land in. :-)

I've been going further, did a 32 mile round trip over the weekend. The fear of landing out is mostly gone now :D Soaring is much more fun when you have a mission.
